About us ... Carolyn Kendall & Kellie Smith have independently dreamed of opening a quilt shop for some years. As their friendship grew they became aware of the other’s interest in undertaking such an adventure and so the plans began. Quilt Street is very much a joint venture – thank you for visiting our site. Kellie will be the principal buyer for the site as she is knowledgeable and has had experience in this area. It was she who located our initial Block of the Month project and we are very excited to be the first to offer “The Queen and her Court” in Australia. Our store will always stock quality fabrics from selected manufacturers and in many styles, patterns produced for our site and by other designers, pre-cut kits and a variety of notions. Carolyn has sewn all her life. Her grandmother was an extraordinary embroiderer and her love and ability has been passed on to her granddaughter. Carolyn is a versatile sewer, who made her own wedding dress and has sewn for her home and family – including making a new hood lining for one of her son’s cars. She took her first quilting lesson in the 1983. However, she didn’t seriously get addicted until about 7 years ago. To date she has made over 50 quilted items, including bed quilts, bags, table runners and wall hangings. Her style is eclectic but tends to favour traditional blocks, appliqué and embroidery. She loves earthy colours and always tries to incorporate a cat somewhere in each project. Carolyn has taught classes in crazy quilting and embroidery and designs most of her creations. Her current projects include: a New York beauty quilt in black, white and orange; a queen size quilt using 1” hexagons in civil war colours; and a pieced quilt with red-work embroidery in Christmas fabrics. Kellie has a background in industrial sewing as well as several years experience in a patchwork fabric store. She currently teaches quilting classes from her home. Kellie has been quilting for about 5 years and has produced about 40 articles including ones suitable for babies, knee rugs, bed quilts and bags. Because of her background, Kellie’s work always demonstrates accurate and beautiful piecing. She favours pretty and romantic fabrics as well as those in civil war prints. Her present obsession is needle-turn appliqué and she has a number of projects in progress. She is a huge fan of Block of the Month programs and has purchased many during her quilting career. Ian Kendall designed and will help maintain the website. ![]()
